We are an interdisciplinary collective bringing together archaeologists and artists, through the purpose of walking. Initially we connected in the landscape of Dartmoor, each of us having a deep personal connection to the moor.

Through our collaborative work we interpret the way it has changed as an evolving landscape. Walking becomes our main vehicle: we retread ancient paths, drovers routes, networks of highways and entangled environmental niches.

Through experimental praxis we are concept led, responding to deep time and the ancient archaeology on the Moor. We use wearable art, drawing processes, walking, reflection and pilgrimage. The ecology of the moor directly informs our practice and we operate with a strong environmental agenda.

The interaction in nature is framed as an act of self care and shared care.

The act of walking and pilgrimage can open up new ways of environmental 'knowing' that shape and are shaped by ritual, habit and inscription. Through pilgrimage as praxis, our choice of Dartmoor and ancient Somerset pathways offers a palimpsest of time, histories, landscape, environment and sense of place.

The Practice of Walking

We believe that walking is the primary vehicle for our collective inquiry. By retreading ancient paths and drovers routes, we engage with the landscape as an evolving entity. The interaction with the environment becomes a dialogue between past and present, human and earth.
